Why Is Tobacco and Alcohol Legal, and Marijuana Illegal?

Question by : Why is tobacco and alcohol legal, and marijuana illegal?
the government by legislation wants us to get drunk rather than high. When in a government test with orange cones, on an isolated track, the marijuana smoker did 7 times better than the person alcohol drinker. and alcohol is just way more dangerous in so many other ways.

over all i don’t think any of them should be illegal, because of something called individual freedom, and limited government control over people. but if ANY are going to be illegal, why the more dangerous ones?
meyah, but people only smoke one joint a day usually, even chronic marijuana smokers. so if one joint is 10 cigs, and most cig smokers smoke a pack (20 cigs) shouldn’t cigs be illegal? by your logic.

Charli > my question is why is there only a war on certain drugs, and why are those certain drugs (marijuana) less harmful than the legal ones.
Maddie > actually alcohol kills 100,000 people a year, (innocent drivers, dui’s, liver cancer, overdose), marijuana has killed 0 people so far.
Last poster named “?” – actually my question is with merit. this is how we solve all kinds of problems, is comparisons to other laws. And we don’t set legal limits for intoxication, we sell 30 packs at a time of alcohol. and yes marijuana’s scheduling is wrong, my question wasn’t about the legal process of getting it to legal, it was about the reason why it’s illegal, when more harmful things are legal
