Need Good Questions for Audience Analysis?

Question by prettypalmbeacher: Need good questions for audience analysis?
on persuading a group that addiction is a disease not a choice…can be open ended or close ended questions…thanks!
..
Unless you’re an addict or recovering addict you will surely disagree. If you’ve taken a course in Psychology you would learn that it’s genetic…look it up…there’s something called being pre-disposed…read the book of Alcoholics Anonymous. I am not misguided, I am a recovering addict that comes from a long line of alcoholics and addicts including both parents. I didn’t ask for your opinion I asked for help forming questions for my speech class. Thank you and have a great night!

You can make all the good questions you want, but you will never persuade a group that addiction is a disease and not a choice because you’re simply wrong and misguided. Addiction involves choice, behaviors, and habits which are certainly under the control of the person, even though the choices get strongly reinforced with the symptoms and consequences of addiction.

Addicts and recovering addicts are naturally more predisposed to deluding themselves and blaming anyone but their own choices and their own behavior. I’ve had courses in psychology, probably more than you, and I got A’s in my classes because I listened and learned, which you apparently didn’t do. It’s false and scientifically unsupported to say that “it’s genetic”. Pre-disposed does NOT mean predestined or causal or guaranteed or lacking choice. The book Alcoholics Anonymous is a book of religious fiction, not scientific evidence. You are a recovering addict who feels more comfortable with avoiding responsibility for your own actions rather than face the real truth, and that’s part of the reason why you took addictive drugs in the first place – to avoid truth, real-life, and reality by replacing it with a chemically induced fantasy as a substitute. I have dealt with addicts and drunks since the 60’s, probably before you were born. You are misguided if you prefer to accept delusional thinking instead of reality. Lots of people will see through your attempts to absolve yourself of responsibility for your own choices and behavior, so you will not be successful at persuading them that you have a disease.

Oh, and I know of people who are not addicts who have both parents and a long family history of addiction. But, it’s a very common trait for addicts to be self-centered liars, with the amazing ability to lie to themselves and believe it. You want to be cured? Go to a licensed clinical therapist for behavior modification for Narcissistic Personality Disorder and lying.
