I have an in class debate for my psychology class, of if Divorce affects the children or not.
I believe it does, but I got put on the ‘no it does not side’ (We did not get to choose)
And I really cant find any sources to show it does not. So if anyone can give me any opinions and why I would be grateful.

It’s an impossible position to argue, without a qualifier. The weather affects us, the question is whether it is positive or negative, and that depends on our physical makeup and the weather itself.

The only relevant issue is whether the divorce is more detrimental to the children than the marriage and that’s apparently not what you’re being asked to “debate” in your psych class. The teacher should be fired, btw.

But here are 2 anecdotal “case studies” for you: My child was 14 months old when his father and I divorced due to constant conflict arising from his drug/alcohol abuse/addiction. My child has been reared in a drug-free, alcohol-free home and is now 12.

Another one is where the child was 8 and his parents were in constant conflict to the extent the 8 year old came forward from the back seat of the car and begged his parents to “stop fighting.” They divorced shortly thereafter. He is now 14 and apparently living in a confict-free home.

You’ll have to check back in 5-10 years to see how these 2 boys were affected, because they will really only be able to tell you themselves when they are adults on their own.

hello i am in the boat, i have 3 children 1,3, and 4 and am going through a divorce,, the divorce did not effect my children, but i think it has to do with how old they are, and thier dad was not around all that much when we were married so i that has some to do with it, and now he has a gf he only see them like every 4 months or so.. oh yea we been separated almost 19 months.. so i think it all depends on thier age and how close they are to the other parent.. hope this helps out some and u are more than welcome to me mail me any ?? u have [email protected]
