“If one innocent person dies, then it’s not worth it.” Someone well known said something like that, but I can’t remember who.
i was debating on the legalization of all drugs in debate club. I had the con side. I wanted to use this quote, but I couldn’t remember who said it, so i didn’t use it. Basically what I wanted to address was that even though it has been shown that regulation leads to less addiction, if one innocent person dies because someone was able to legally obtain a dangerous drug, then the legalization would not be worth it.

Sounds like the main premise of the Blackstone formulation (William Blackstone)

“Better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer”.

You might be paraphrasing what Stalin said during word war 2, “when one person dies it is a tragedy, when thousands die it’s statistics.”

Also you are wrong in your belief that legalization of drugs leads to less addiction, in fact the addiction rate rises slightly. What drastically is reduced is the number of deaths, both by overdoses and by collateral damage of Street wars over turf. BTW I am a strong proponent on legalization of drugs solely for the costs it will save the tax payers from incarcerating the dealers and the users..

I am not sure of the actual numbers but I believe that it is over 80% of the criminals are in jail for drug related crimes just think of the saving to tax payers and the good the money good be doing spent else where not to mention all the children that will have fathers back in there lifes. and yes I am aware many would be in jail for other offenses,
