How Bad Is “controlled” Vicodin Recreational Use?

Question by Mack Taylor: How bad is “controlled” Vicodin recreational use?
The only answers I can find on my question are in regards to people who use and/or abuse Vicodin on a daily basis. My question is a little different… I understand that using Vicodin recreationally isn’t good, and can very easily lead to addiction and all that stuff. But my circumstances are unique in the sense that I have been able to successfully control my recreational use to just once a week, (on a very rare occasion I’ll do it twice a week), but literally that’s the most I’ll do it in a week is 2 times. And when I do it, its only 1 of the 500mg pills each time, never more than that.

Here’s the thing though, I’ve been on this “once a week” habit now for about a year. So I want to know how “bad” that really is. Furthermore, the main reason I want to know, is because I do not feel ANY of the “side effects” that generally come from long term usage, that someone who truly abuses the drug would feel; my tolerance has NOT gone up at all. I don’t have any noticeable issues happening, no mood difference, no stomach problems, etc., etc.

I guess my overall question is: If you only ingest 500 to 1000 mg’s per week of Vicodin, how long would it take, (if at all), to cause the same types of “damaging” long term effects that heavier users might experience?
Just wanted to respond to the couple of answers I’ve gotten so far… First, thank you for responding. Second, while I liked hearing from someone who shares the ability to “control” their drug intake, and while I appreciated the recommendation to “jog” instead; neither really answered my question. 🙂
I would just really like to know, medically-speaking, if there are problems and effects that can stem from this type of low-dosage, controlled Vicodin use, after a year or more’s time. (And again, no offense to the straight-edgers who just want to tell me how “bad drugs are”, but I am inquiring on a level that is aside from the obvious rules of thumb regarding “drug abuse”.) Thanks!

I personally think it’s fine! I’m just like you. I take percocet once or twice a week and occasionally I might take adderal or vyvance. I think some people are like us and can manage it, just like other people can drink occasionally. Others just can’t do anything in moderation. They just don’t have the personality for it! Their kinda “all or nothing ” type mentality gets them into trouble. You sound like your fine though.

You will find lots of support here I am sure. I however do not support this. Vicodin is a narcotic that is used to treat pain. If you need to get high, go for a long, long jog. You will be amazed at what the body can accomplish on it’s own.

But what about the long-term effects of medicines pushed in slick TV ads every day? The companies spend 10 seconds on the benefits and the remaining 20 on the pill's dangers. All medications come with risks. Marijuana's use as a recreational drug is …
