What Does the Term “Crack Baby” Even Mean?
Question by Mely: What does the term “Crack baby” even mean?
I obviously know that it means a baby born to a mother who did at least some sort of hard drug during her pregnancy. But can you have a baby with special needs from using drugs BEFORE you got pregnant? I’m just wondering we’re kinda learning about this is health class and I wanted a bit of background over it. Can the sperm be affected by hard drugs? Can the egg in a female? Ha, this is a stupid question, but I hope ya’ll can answer it (:
Thanks in advance!

the babies are actually born addicted to crack themselves and have to be weaned off it slowly.
having done drugs before but not during doesn’t really effect the baby unless using dirty needles has left you with hep c or hiv. they can give the mother something to protect the baby from getting it from the mother.
some drugs may have some effect on the genetics of eggs and sperm but so far not much has been proven.
