Long story short my boyfriend had a rough child hood, during which he was molested by his father. He’s never really sought help for the emotional scars, and is an alcoholic. As well as being an alcoholic, he uses cocaine, “‘shrooms,” and Oxycontin (synthetic heroin).
I want to help him battle his inner demons. As it is, he’;s never told anyone any of this about him… I feel like I need to do something; I have to help him in some way. Any advice? I don’t want anyone persecuting him. I don’t judge him, and you all shouldn’t either. I just want ideas on the best way to possibly help him overcome his addictions and his past.
Oh, and by the way, he’s been using for 2 years. I just found out today, and we’ve been seeing each other for 8 1/2 months (but we’ve known each other for a year). I’ve just realized that I seem to have fallen pretty hard for him, and I can’t stand the idea of anything happening to him… If it makes any difference at all, I’m 21 and he’s 25.
I knew about the alcoholism. He’s a functional drunk, so it’s hard to tell when he’s drunk unless you smell it on him. As far as the drugs go, he looks the same when high as he does when he’s drunk, so I just assumed it was liquor since I can’t always smell it on him. He doesn’t use every day, but he says he uses every chance that he gets. He used to use Oxycontin every other day, but this was before I found out.
