Don’t Fat People Just Have an Extreme Lack of Willpower?

Question by Erebus: Don’t fat people just have an extreme lack of willpower?
I find it trivializing that so many overweight people need to bitch their excuses. It’s stress; it’s genetics; it’s how I grew up… These are all excuses, and nothing more. For one, I am at a very healthy weight, and eat a very healthy diet. However, I’ve been overweight (nearly reached obesity), and I have been able to control myself. It’s hard. I realize that. But diet’s aren’t supposed to be easy. Let’s take a look at my life:

1) I have a family history of addiction. My Mother was obese, and had to have surgery because she felt she couldn’t control her appetite. Then she adopted Alcoholism. My Grandfather is overweight, and my Grandmother was addicted to drugs. Obvious family history of addiction. Thus I have the “genetics” component.

2) Growing up I was allowed to eat whatever I wanted, in whatever quantity I wanted, this being played in part by my Obese Mother.

3) The amount of mental trauma I went through in my life probably exceeds the majority of most Western households. I watched my Mother die of Alcohol poisoning. I think I cover the “stress” part.

Which leads me to why I’m angry. I really, really despise when people who are overweight feel the need to bitch. It drives me crazy because they have no excuses. Except for a very limited amount of people who have actual health complications that stigmatize their weight, people need to just stfu and start trying.

Maybe, when you grow up, you’ll develop the willpower to not to get angry, still less go “crazy” or “really, really despise” other people whose problems don’t seem to have much to do with you. It sounds stressful being judge and jury over the whole of society. Give yourself a vacation.

I just think they don’t know how to control themselfs when it comes to food, and that they have been living in that lifestyle of eating so much that they’re stuck to it.
