English singer-songwriter, whose
career has now spanned four decades.
Osbourne rose to prominence as lead
vocalist of pioneering English heavy
metal band Black Sabbath, and
eventually achieved a multi-platinum
solo career which revolutionized the
heavy metal genre. As a result he is
known as the “Godfather of Heavy
Metal”, and, because of some of his
material, the “Prince of Darkness”.

1. In 1962, at the age of 14, he was with a band called The Black Panthers. They performed a few times and were unpaid. In 1966, he and Terence ‘Geezer’ Butler formed a band called Rare Breed. It performed twice publically. In August, 1968, the Polka Tulk Blues Band was formed. Within a month, that band became known as Earth. In August, 1969, the group known as Earth became Black Sabbath.

3. He was fired from Black Sabbath after the 1978 NSD tour for failure to show up for rehearsals and gigs due to substance abuse. He also had “artisitic” differences with guitarist Tony Iommi who wanted to add horns and other elements to the Black Sabbath sound. Ozzy did not want these changes. Ozzy wanted to go solo.

4. He had 8 solo studio albums released prior to March 20, 2007. His 9th solo studio album, “Black Rain,” although recorded in 2006, was not released until May 22, 2007. I am not including compilation albums, video albums, tribute albums, re-releases, re-issues or EPs.
