Is Alcoholism Considered a “disease” by Medical Doctors or Psychologists?

Question by Anonymous: Is alcoholism considered a “disease” by medical doctors or psychologists?
It’s BS if you ask me. I think people who drink too much are just plain old fashioned gluttons. It’s no more of a “disease” than food or drug addiction as far as I’m concerned.
I mean, I might buy that they have OCD or addictive personality disorder or something, but I don’t believe the alcohol itself is the problem. The real issue is a lack of self-control.
