Question by George: Ive been placed on Probation. Will Carisoprodol cause me to fail a drug test?
I have recently been placed on probation. I have a drug test in 2 weeks. Ive taken several Carisoprodol 345mgs in the last couple days. If they choose to give me a drug test in 2 weeks, Will I fail it? If so, How? because ive read that Carisoprodol is just a skeletal relaxer and isnt considered a Narcotic or opiate. If it will cause me to fail, what do you suggest that I do so that I might have a chance in passing it? PLEASE SERIOUS ANSWERS, I DONT WANT TO GO BACK TO JAIL 🙁 Thank you all

Legally a narcotic only refers to opioids and cocaine. In pharmacology a narcotic only refers to opioids. So as you can imagine although a drug may not be s narcotic does not mean it is not a controlled substance. Carisoprodol is a, under US law, a Federally controlled schedule IV substance. Its active metabolite is meprobamate, which is also a prescription medication approved to treat anxiety disorders. Its effects are very similar to benzodiazepines (eg Valium, Xanax), barbiturates (eg phenobarbital, pentobarbital), and alcohol. Carisoprodol has been widly abused and it was only last year that it became a controlled substance. I’m not sure if you would be tested for it (and to detect it the test would have to specifically test for it or meprobamate). If you have a legal prescription for it and you have no restrictions prohibiting your use of certain medications then even if you are tested and it is detected it should not be a problem. It is also not detectable for very long. If you do have restrictions on medications you can take (even if you were only told not to use narcotics especially since many people (improperly) use the term “narcotic” to describe any illegal or potentially addictive drug) then I recommend you find out exactly what you are not allowed to take.
