Del Rio Police Make K2 Bust After Students Overdose – By: Grace WhiteFollow Grace on Twitter @Grace__White and on FacebookPolice say some Del Rio High School students were hospitalized after trying K2, or synthetic marijuana. School police officers found 2 students collapsed on campus and they were rushed to the hospital. Once local law enforcement started working together on the case, they discovered the synthetic marijuana was all coming from the same place.”I had just heard that one morning on the pep rally about the kid tripping out,” said Denise Saavedra, a student. Investigators say they tracked the K2 to Kono Jimenez, 34, and Aime Venegas, 26. Police caught Jimenez speeding through a school zone. He led them to 22 pounds of K2, 5 grams of synthetic cocaine, known as bath salts, and 4000 dollars in cash. “It’s always good to know our law enforcement is doing their job and they’re staying on top of everything,” said Alfred Lozano, a parent. “It’s highly addictive and very dangerous,” said Captain William Rattay, Del Rio Police. Rattey says their department has been working with other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to crack down on K2. “Lot of the same ingredients are used in herbicides, rat poisons, this is what your children are ingesting out here.” “I had heard it was legal marijuana,” said Saavedra. Police say it’s not. They say one of the biggest problems is people not knowing about the bill state lawmakers passed last year, making it illegal in Texas to possess, sell or manufacture synthetic
