The main difference is that prescribed steroids are given in measured dosages to treat a specific condition. In this case the benefits outweigh the risks, and the dosages have been tested to prove their safety. With illegal steroids – they may even be the same as prescriptions, but they are used in a way that is unsafe. Usually too much is taken in cases where none are really needed. People who take steroids to “bulk up” are taking big risks just to look or perform better.
