What Music Videos Should I Write About?

Question by Mythl_Blue: What music videos should I write about?
This is my assignment:

Pick any current hip-hop video and any current video from another genre of music. Watch each video and compare and contrast the role of men and women in each. Based on the description of the video what does it mean to be a man and what does it mean to be a women? List the unwritten rules of gender that underlie the depictions that you see and describe? Back up your argument with information in chapter 3 of “The Hip Hop Reader”.

Which music videos would fit in with this topic well and give me a lot to write about

Thank you.

The video is about addiction.

The obvious interpretation of the video is that it is about drugs (which it is). but, the intelligent interpretation is that it is symbolic and uses double meanings of both drugs and relationships.

Lenny Kravitz’s kid Zoe is in it and plays a drug addict.
The video explores her transformation form addict to recovery.

The video can also be interpreted form a relationship view
point. It shows a women’s dependency on a drug a.k.a. her boyfriend. You can view her relationship with him as unstable and he is the dominant partner which she relies on, eluding to the fact that some women are incapable of taking care of themselves.

The lyrics correspond with her dependence and his dominance.

“I’m your prescription, your physician, your addiction.”

“Don’t ever let them tell you that you will never need me.”
