Why Did Much of the Public Resent Our Military Vets When They Came Back From Vietnam Instead of the People Who?
Question by 654654654654: Why did much of the public resent our military vets when they came back from Vietnam instead of the people who?
sent them there. I am 31 years old and my whole life I’ve always heard that Vietnam Vets were treated horribly when they returned home. Why did people treat them so bad? If the ones that treated them badly didn’t like the war in Vietnam why not blame the leadership that sent them there, not the ones that were there? I’ve tried to ask two of my uncles why, but both declined saying, ” we won’t talk about Vietnam”

Because people thought the soldiers were monsters for fighting in a war that we shouldn’t of been in. Not to mention that we showed a lot of what we were doing on the Public Televisions at home.

The claim Vietnam vets were treated horribly is a propaganda lie spread by the right wing in the late 60’s and early 70’s to attack “them hippies”. There was never a since documented case of solders being spit on or attacked. Things are the same today with the corporate medias lies about the Occupy movement.
